About Janet Pedersen
Janet Pedersen is a landscape and figurative painter. She works in bold color with loose brushwork to capture the ever-changing light or movement in a bustling city. She expands on her observational eye, honed from years of plein-air painting, and composes her paintings through experimentation, paint application and subject exploration. Shortly after graduating from Art Center College of Design in California, Janet moved to New York City to pursue a career as an illustrator. Eventually, she enjoyed a career as a children’s book illustrator and author. Among her many clients were Candlewick Books, Clarion Books, Penguin and Random House. Wanting to pursue the fine arts, she began painting the landscape. She fell in love painting on location and says she ‘still finds the experience of plein air painting to be the best art education I’ve ever known.’ Janet Pedersen is an award winning artist. Recently, several of her dance-themed paintings were chosen to be part of the State Department’s ‘Art in Embassies’ program, celebrating the universal joy and borderless beauty of dance. The exhibition will be on loan for three years at the Residency of the U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzekinski. She teaches ongoing adult workshops through The Art Annex in Park Slope, Brooklyn, as well as private tutoring.
